Lectures

Harriet Rochlin has been lecturing nationwide on Jewish roots in the West for 35 years. She's led scholar-in-residence weekends, week-long elder-hostels, daylong teacher training programs, presented at Jewish and Western book fairs, keynoted at conferences, dedications of new archives, and other milestone celebrations. Because she especially values meeting her readers, she discounts her books for reading groups and frequently leads discussions. (click to books)

Audience Responses to Lectures

On behalf of the 92nd Street Y and the Bronfman Center for Jewish Life, I wish to express the utmost gratitude for your appearance here for Deadwood: The Jewish Experience in the Old West....As you surely noticed from the full house and the response that evening, our audience members were extremely pleased with the program and left the auditorium with minds expanded and their lives enriched.

Sharon Goldman, Program Director
Bronfman Center for Jewish Life
New York City, New York

A fascinating lecture and topic that surprised me with interesting, new details. The images are great and really bring the information to life.

Rachel Altman, Education Coordinator
Jewish Federation of Santa Barbara
October 30, 2005

The audience was intrigued by your work and excited to have you here as Keynote Speaker. We wish that the time had not gone so quickly and that we could have continued the intellectual discussion and conversation for days.

Dr. Mary Ryder
Chairperson, High Plains Writers Conference
South Dakota State University, Brookings, SD

Thank you for your presentation, "A Mixed Chorus: Jewish Women in the American West" [as the scholar-in-residence] on Saturday and Sunday, March 20 and 21. Both presentations were extremely well-received by the general public on Saturday and the National Council of Jewish Women on Sunday.

Leon L. Jett
Public Programs, "Jewish Life in the American West"
Eiteljorg Museum, Indianapolis, IN

Harriet Rochlin's slide presentation "A Mixed Chorus: Jewish Women in the American West" delighted and stimulated a sold-out audience at the Wells Fargo Theater of the Autry Museum. With dynamic stories and vivid images, she brings to life a little-known arrary of Jewish women who pioneered in the Americanizing West.
John Gray
Executive Director,
Autry Museum of the Western Heritage, Los Angeles, CA
Harriet Rochlin's program allowed the teachers to have deeper understanding of the role of children in history, in particular, local history. This information complimented, and yet went far beyond the curriculum and textbooks, creating an enriching lecture.
Laureen Trainer
School Services Manager, Autry National Center
Program: Teach American History

As the sophistication of the Jewish genealogical community grows, so does the challenge of presenting an interesting and informative program. Your slide narrative, 'From Pariah to Pardner: Jewish Life on the Spanish, Mexican and American Western Frontier' helped us succeed in meeting that challenge.
Ted Gostin

I would like you to know how much the Jewish community enjoyed your presentation. Your interpretation was both education and personal.

Your archives are most impressive and a really wonderful resource. I am hopeful we will be able to use some of your material both for the Core Exhibit and future temporary shows at our new Cultural Center.

Not only do our "colorful characters" entertain, but you skillfully interpret Western Jewish life as it fits into the continuum of Jewish history.
Dr. Beverly Chico

We are being flooded with comments on the quality, tone and the importance of your presentation. You have made a great contribution to the history of Jews on the Western frontier and indeed, to the history of our people.
